Tangled Connections is a coming-of-age story following a 20-year old Haitian-American, Evelyn, as she makes some questionable decisions that her parents (Mom & Dad) might not approve of. As she navigates how she will reveal her secrets, she gets some wise counsel from Grandma and some not-so-wise suggestions from her loud-mouth best friend, Judy, all while trying to avoid having to ever speak with Pastor. Evelyn is really optimistic, but did she make enough time to think about a backup plan?
Tangled Connections is a story that was developed by Eric Cajuste over a two year period. This screenplay takes much inspiration from the audio play Evil Eye by Madhuri Shekar, in that the entire movie takes place over a series of phone calls. The audience will watch this story unfold although no two characters will ever share the same room. This movie aims to demonstrate a blend of various elements including: Christianity in the Haitian household, differences between American and Haitian values, and exploring the parent-young adult dynamic.
The objective of this screenplay isn't only to provide entertainment value, but to inspire self-reflection and to spark a dialogue at home, not necessarily to teach. If this movie can encourage a shift in a mindset or can provoke someone to take an action in any way, then the goal is achieved.
This story is being told over 2 halves, with the first part premiering December 2024 and the finale premiering in May 2025.
